JULIA DENOS

Julia Denos loves words and pictures, making a mess, and cleaning it up. She earned her BFA from Lesley University College of Art & Design (LUCAD, previously The Art Institute of Boston) and now lives and works near the ocean, just outside of historic Salem, Mass, a good place to live for a time-traveling Piscean.

Julia has a passion for the environment so loves to work on projects that celebrate a person’s connection to nature, culture, and the inner spirit. She feels it’s vital to represent a diversity of backgrounds in storytelling and gravitates toward the unknown and unseen, striving to use her art, both words and illustrations, to investigate and illuminate those worlds, seeking the story that threads people together.

Julia’s books have included projects she has authored, illustrated, and author/illustrated, all highly regarded. Her books have been featured in the New York Times and she’s received starred reviews from: The Horn Book, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, School Library Journal, Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books and Shelf Awareness. Several of her titles have been ALSC Notable Books. In addition, she’s illustrated more than 25 middle grade and young adult novel covers.
